In 1994 Turtle Plastics President and Founder, Tom Norton and his Physician Wife, Karen Bradley, MD joined a medical mission in Haiti.  There they met a young Haitian-American, Hugues Bastien, who had just taken over a small Kindergarten of 30 children.  Joining with Hugues and others, two new classrooms were built and the Kindergarten moved to 1st grade.  This has continued for 12 years to the point where we now have 2,300 children in a full new K-13 school.

We also have recently finished building a hospital/clinic that is now treating over 20,000 patients per year.  Under contruction at this time is a Chicken Farm and a Vo-Ed school.

A lot of donated school and medical equipment is regularly shipped to the Turtle Plastics plant for storage until an overseas container picks it up to ship to Haiti.

Enhancing the look

See how color can enhance the look! New matting brightens up this older pool. Tile colors blend and compliment surrounding area. Tiles can be cut neatly around poles and ladders, and they easily snap together.

Walking on “grating” as used in mezzanines, platforms and steps can be hurtful and uncomfortable.

Good walking or standing matting tends to undulate and take the form of the grate openings.

Mezzomat offers a structural support as an underlayment made of steel or plastic webbing.

With this structural support the Super Soft or standard tiles will lay flat.

The system can be purchased by the square foot coated or uncoated. Coated tiles utilize our Grit coating which is real carbide grit.

The stair system comes in any width or depth. Just spec what is needed.

The front of the tiles contains counter sunken holes to fasten the mat to the step. The back (cut) portion uses sturdiest surface bolts which do not cause a trip hazard as they are recessed at the back of the step where ones foot does not tread.

Sometimes small sections of matting as used in front of a machine will slide when horizontal pressure is applied as when a worker pushes their feet against the mat.

Was born as an answer to the product from New Zealand called Ergo Matte. This product came to the U.S. through Canada and boasted several important features.

1. Bigger openings so more debris could go through.
2. Taller, thicker so more debris could be contained within the tile.*
3. A larger module size for faster install because of labor costs.

*1 and 2 make the assumption that “they are never going to clean the matting so let’s make it easier to pour more debris into it.

We were tempted to just go out and make an 18”x18” (their size) and join the competition abandoning our very successful 12” square module.

No! We said we can easily make the 12”x12” into a 24”x24” or 36”x36” etc.

So following their reasoning an 18”x18” goes down again as fast then 24”x24” is almost six times as fast and 36”x36”…well go figure.
